Super Healthy Food Stir-Fried Spinach with Garlic and Sesame Seeds Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 300 grams fresh spinach, washed and chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • 1-2 dried red chilies (optional, for a bit of heat)

Instructions:

1. Preparing the Spinach:

  • Thoroughly wash and drain the spinach. Chop it roughly if the leaves are large.

2. Toasting the Sesame Seeds:

  • Heat a small, dry skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the sesame seeds and toast them for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly, until they are golden brown and fragrant. Remove from heat and set aside.

3. Stir-Frying the Spinach:

  • Heat a wok or large frying pan over medium-high heat.
  • Add the sesame oil and let it heat up for a few seconds.
  • Add the sliced garlic and dried red chilies (if using) to the pan. Stir-fry for about 1 minute until the garlic is fragrant and just starting to turn golden brown. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  • Add the chopped spinach to the pan. Stir-fry quickly to coat the spinach with the garlic and oil.
  • The spinach will wilt down significantly.
  • Add the soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), rice vinegar or lemon juice, and sugar. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
  • Continue to stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until the spinach is tender and fully cooked.

4. Finishing Touches:

  • Taste and add salt if necessary. Remember that soy sauce is already salty, so adjust accordingly.
  • Sprinkle the toasted sesame seeds over the spinach and give it a final toss.

5. Serving:

  • Transfer the stir-fried spinach to a serving dish.
  • Serve hot as a side dish with steamed rice, noodles, or as part of a larger Asian meal.

Tips:

  • For added flavor, you can include a small amount of finely chopped fresh ginger along with the garlic.
  • To make the dish more substantial, add sliced mushrooms or bell peppers during the stir-frying process.
  • If you prefer a spicier dish, increase the amount of dried red chilies or add a dash of chili oil.
